About me
If you're reading this, you more than likely already know who I am, what I do, what I like, etc. In the unlikely case that people stumble upon this blog (which I eventually hope starts to happen), here's what you need to know about me.
My name is Mike Bowers. I have lived my entire life in the Carolinas, having been born in North Carolina, living there, and going to school there for 22 years. I've spent the last four years of my life in South Carolina, first going to grad school here and now working full-time. I'd like to think I eventually will move on to another part of the country, but only time will tell.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in mass communication from UNC Asheville, which means I'm probably more qualified to have a blog than about 95% of people who actually have them. It also means that I know a little bit about the media. I also have a Master's degree in counselor education from Clemson University, which means that if there's an issue that's related to higher education, I can either offer an educated opinion or I can read up on it in a textbook. I also work in higher education, but don't expect me to ever blog about my employer or anything related to it.
Speaking of which, here are some of the topics you can probably expect me to write about on a regular basis:
- The media
- Politics
- Current events
- The Carolina Panthers and other assorted NFL topics
- Entertainment
A few personal notes about me:
I'm the youngest of two children. My older brother, Kenny, is 28 years old. Along with our dad, we're a family of three men at this point, which makes for interesting times.
We share a love for the Carolina Panthers and for most things sports in general. Kenny's also the place where I got my unique, borderline-inappropriate sense of humor, so blame him if you don't think I'm very humorous. (Though I can't imagine that happening.)
I also have a very amazing partner, Amanda, who is a very big part
of my life. We've been together for over a year now, which is pretty impressive considering the total length of all my previous relationships combined was about four months. She challenges me and motivates me, opens me up to new experiences and ideas, and I'm thankful to have her in my life. If only I could get her to hate the Patriots more...
Speaking of which, here is a list of topics you should not expect to see on here:
- Any additional details on my personal life
- Any commentary about past, current, or future jobs
- Any complaining about work, friends, family, etc.
- Any praise for the New England Patriots, unless it's a post praising them for firing Bill Belichek and releasing Tom Brady
Other than that, we'll see what happens. I hope this blog will provide an avenue for discussion on various topics. At the very least, it gives me a desperately-needed hobby, so thanks for humoring me!
